The people of South Shields have a great sense of pride in their home, and often, there are generations of people who stay in the area for their whole lives.
For the last decade, the city centre of South Shields has undergone renovation, one of the most notable changes being the word library that was opened just off the marketplace in the centre of the town in 2016 and the new public transport interchange that opened in 2019.

Beyond the town centre, there is also a potential industry boom in the pipeline for the area, with news of a new development in the Port of Tyne. This new development is funded by LS Eco Advanced cables (LSEAC) to the tune of £923 million investment in the area, creating 500 direct jobs in the Port of Tyne and a further 1,000 along the supply chain.
This investment is projected to place South Tyneside at the heart of the green industrial revolution.
Kim McGuinness, North East Major, has claimed that these plans have the potential to create another ‘industrial icon’ in the north east, creating jobs and boosting the economy of South Tyneside as well as the population of the town and surrounding areas.
South Tyneside is set for significant transformation in the coming years, with major developments underway across the area. These changes promise to reshape the town centre and attract a growing population in the near future.
